Summary
The project deals with the design of cement-free construction composites containing recycled
products. This is achieved based on the knowledge of the alkali activated materials (AAM)
mixture composition and by means of using various types of recycled aggregates (RA).
Selected concrete RA and ceramic RA are added to AAM mixture to reduce the consumption of
natural resources and CO2 emissions. Additionally, the use of RA can be seen as a potential for
improvement of self-curing ability of the mixtures. Designed mixtures are comprehensively
studied by modern experimental and numerical tools. Special attention is paid to fracture
process zone (FPZ) length and size assessment, which is done by a combination of the
experimental digital image correlation method with the analytical solution for description of a
cracked body based on linear elastic fracture mechanics. The FPZ development under various
loading conditions (static & cyclic) is studied to enhance possible applicability of AAM mixtures
with RA in cyclically loaded structural elements.
