Summary
Clinching is one of the modern methods for cold joining of structural parts in steel structures made from thin-walled cold-formed elements. This method is widely applied in various areas of industry, but is still only used to a small extent in the civil engineering. With this method of joining, phenomena affecting the long-term and short-term behavior of the joint occur, showing that the assumptions and calculation procedures known from the automotive and aerospace industries cannot be applied to steel structures without reservations. It turns out that there is a lack of knowledge about the processes taking place during the execution of the connection as well as about its behavior during operation in a real structure.
